Dr. Gerald Schmidt of Perkin Elmer joins Attana Board

Dr. Gerald Schmidt, Vice President and General Manager Life Sciences and Technology EMEA and India at Perkin Elmer has been appointed to the Attana Board of Directors.

Stockholm, November 18th, 2015 – At the annual shareholders meeting of Attana AB, Dr. Gerald Schmidt was appointed as a new member of the Board of Directors.

Dr. Schmidt has a long and successful career within the Life Science industry. He is currently Vice President and General Manager Life Sciences and Technology EMEA and India at Perkin Elmer. Before starting at Perkin Elmer in July 2014 he had held similar positions at Tecan, GE Healthcare and Biacore. Dr. Schmidt began his industrial career as an Application Specialist at Applied Biosystems in 1988 after receiving his Ph.D. in Biopolymer Chemistry at the University of Ulm.

Dr. Schmidt comments, “Attana AB is an interesting company with big potential. From my point of view, their label free approach is one development step ahead of the current classical, just on biochemical assays focused technologies. Their proprietary label-free sera and cell-based assays reveal unique information about efficacy and safety, improving prediction of clinical behavior of drug candidates. This information can increase the success rates of clinical trials and the productivity of drug development. In my current and previous positions I have had the pleasure to follow the development of the Attana technology and am very pleased to be given the opportunity to participate in Attana’s expansion.”

Attana’s co-founder and Chairman of the Board, Teodor Aastrup adds, “Dr. Schmidt has a genuine track-record of successfully growing the sales of various biotech tools companies. We are both thrilled and proud to have him onboard. I am confident that Dr. Schmidt will significantly contribute to Attana’s further expansion and look forward to us working together.”
